Shifnal and Sheriffhales Local Joint Committee (LJC) will hold its next meeting on Tuesday 6 November 2012 at Shifnal Village Hall starting at 7pm.

Part of the meeting will focus on the second round allocation of the grants budget for the 2012/13 financial year.  The deadline for receipt of applications will be end of play on Friday 5 October 2012, and applicants are asked to forward all completed applications directly to Andrea McWilliams, community action officer for the Shifnal area, as soon as possible before that date.

There are two types of grants available, either the community chest for small grants of up to £250 or the remaining budget for larger grants of up to £1,000.  Levels of awards made from this budget will depend on demand, as well as meeting the other usual criteria.

Chairman of the LJC, Councillor Stuart West, said:

“We now urge all local community groups to assess their requirements and see whether they are in need of financial assistance for their projects.  The committee are keen to spread this money far and wide amongst the local community groups to enable a wide range of worthwhile groups to be able to access the funds if they have eligible projects.

“This is a really important community meeting and everyone’s invited to come along and join in with discussions, and we will try to answer as many questions as we can on the night.  To enable all the community to get involved, the venue for this committee alternates around the area.  This meeting is being held at Shifnal Village Hall this time – so put the date in your diary and come along and have your say.”

Projects already funded this year include:

  • Shifnal Millennium Sensory Garden for the development of woodland walk
  • Shifnal Cricket Club to help towards the cost of a new septic tank
  • Shifnal and District Live at Home scheme for volunteer travel costs
  • Yew Tree Courts Arts and Crafts Club for arts materials
  • Shifnal Festival 2012 towards the costs of running the festival
  • Shifnal Town Football Club towards the cost of work on a water borehole

  • Sheriffhales PCC for repairs to the Church Clock
  • Sheriffhales PC for their Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2012
