Council committed to Rockspring Centre in Ludlow

Shropshire Council remains committed to services for children and families at the Rockspring Centre, Ludlow, despite the imminent closure of the current childcare provision at the centre.

The Pre-School Learning Alliance will be closing its childcare provision from the centre at the end of September 2012, but work is already under way to find a new provider to reopen the nursery as soon as possible.

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for education and skills, said:

“The Rockspring Centre is a hugely valuable resource for the local area and it’s important we do what we can to maintain the services on offer.  The council’s children’s centre services will continue to deliver a range of activities and support for children and families from the newly-refurbished rooms at the centre, and is looking to provide more sessions until a new provider can begin operating.

“I know South Shropshire Furniture Scheme, which manages the community centre, is keen to see the nursery provision reinstated as soon as possible, and is looking forward to working with the new service provider.”

Tracey Huffer, local Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow East, added:

“I welcome and am very grateful for this ongoing commitment from Shropshire Council.  It is important now at this stage that we do not lose sight of what a wonderful facility we have at Rockspring.  The need to support and promote it is vital to help ensure a positive way forward for future sustainable nursery provision.”
