Information and advice to help people enjoy camping and caravanning trips is available on a new Facebook page.

The Camp Safe Shropshire Facebook page is part of wider work by Shropshire Council, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Mercia Police, Shropshire County Primary Care Trust and the Shropshire Safer and Stronger Communities Partnership to help ensure everyone can safely make the most of the outdoors.

The page includes precautions that can be taken when using barbecues and heating appliances, food safety advice and links to how people can find out more about the miles of walks in Shropshire’s beautiful countryside.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“Camping and caravanning are great fun – figures from the Office for National Statistics show that in recent years the number of people in the UK choosing to spend their holidays camping and caravanning has grown at an astonishing rate.

“And because it’s always important to keep you and your loved ones safe, Camp Safe Shropshire is here to help with useful tips and advice.”
