Bakeorama at Shropshire libraries

This autumn, libraries across Shropshire are inviting local people to share their favourite recipes and discover new delights.

Throughout September and October 2012 many libraries will be mounting special displays of baking books to join in with the BBC’s Great British Bake-Off, which is showing at the same time.  Also at several libraries there will be Bake and Share afternoon tea and morning coffee events, at which people can bring along home-baked goods to share with everyone.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for libraries, said:

“We are running this promotion to showcase the great selection of baking books in our libraries.  The events also offer a great opportunity to meet new people and share favourite recipes.”

Some libraries are also doing other things alongside the Bake and Share events.  These include:

  • Shrewsbury Library – Bakeorama Coffee Morning and recipe share on Monday 3 September 2012 from 10.30am until 12noon
  • Market Drayton Library – Bakeorama Bake and Share Afternoon Tea on Saturday 8 September 2012 from 1pm until 3pm.  The library will also be launching its Friends Group.
  • Ludlow Library – Time to Listen: story time for adults, followed by Bakeorama, on Tuesday 9 October 2012 from 2pm until 4pm.
  • Oswestry Library – Time to Listen: story time for adults, followed by Bakeorama, on Tuesday 16 October 2012 from 2pm until 4pm.

A specially-created booklist called Pat-a-Cake, Pat-a-Cake: Great Books for Bakers is also available at all libraries to help with ideas.  During the promotion requests for baking books may be made free of charge (usually 35p).
