Temporary closure of Much Wenlock Leisure Centre pool

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

The swimming pool at Much Wenlock Leisure Centre will be closed from Saturday 18 August until Friday 24 August 2012.  This is to allow for essential repairs to the wet changing rooms.

Although this work is not anticipated to affect the pool hall, no alternative changing rooms could be found due to the configuration of the building. Therefore, the pool will have to be closed for the duration of the work.

To minimise the impact on customers, Shropshire Council have considered quite carefully which week to close, given the Shropshire Swim Academy lessons and other events at the centre.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this closure may cause.  However, I hope that people will understand that this work is essential, and we will endeavour to complete it as soon as we can.”

Milner Whiteman, Shropshire Councillor for Much Wenlock, said:

“It is unfortunate that the swimming pool has to be closed, but this essential work has to be done and it is hoped that there will not be too much inconvenience during the school holidays.”
