Summer holiday fun at Severn Valley Country Park

Summer holidays don’t have to be boring – join Shropshire Council’s rangers at Severn Valley Country Park every Wednesday for a fun-filled afternoon. 

All events are based at the Visitor Centre, Severn Valley Country Park, Chapel Lane, Alveley, near Bridgnorth, and run between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.  Cost is £3 per child per event.

Wednesday 25 July 2012: The Minibeast Olympics

With the Olympics about to begin, come along and learn about minibeasts on the park and incredible feats of endurance.  Collect snails and take part in the great Severn Valley Snail Race.

Wednesday 1 August: Blooms and Butterflies

Learn all about our wonderful native wildflowers and all the benefits that they bring to wildlife.  Collect some seed and plant some flowers to have in the garden.  Bring a plant pot. 

Wednesday 8th August: Tree-mendous Trees

Learn about the wonderful trees of Severn Valley Country Park.  Did you know that some trees in Britain are over 2,000 years old?  Or that a yew tree in Wales is said to be over 4,000 years old?  Or that in the summer a single oak tree can support up to 400,000 caterpillars at any one time!  Learn all about the wonders of trees by playing tree bingo and help to make a giant tree collage.

Wednesday 15 August: A magical tour of the woods

Join a ranger-led walk through the weird and wonderful woodlands.  Learn about folklore, make a magical stinky potion, and build a shelter for the elves to live in.

Wednesday 22 August: Make a mini-raft

Come along and gather some natural materials to make your very own mini raft.  Test how it floats in our raft race.

Wednesday 29 August: How to navigate

Do you want to make sure you never get lost when exploring the great outdoors?  Learn how to read maps and navigate using natural features.  Put your new skills to the test with a spot of orienteering.
