Stanton River Bridge to close for essential repairs

Related topics: Community

Stanton River Bridge, which carries the Stanton-upon-Hine Heath to Moreton Corbett road over the River Roden, will be closed to traffic for up to one week starting on Monday 6 August 2012 to enable repairs to be carried out to the damaged section of bridge’s southern parapet.

Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the bridge, it is necessary to close it to traffic to carry out the work safely.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via Shawbury and the A53 road.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

“This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure may cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
