Families with young children in Shrewsbury can get tips and advice on how to live healthier lives on Tuesday 31 July 2012.

The ‘Healthier living for all’ event, from 10am to 2pm, has been organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children centres, and will be held at Mereside CE Primary School, Children’s Way, Wenlock Road, Shrewsbury.

The free event supports support the Government’s “Change For Life Really Big Summer Adventure” initiative, and will be promoting children’s centre services and healthy lifestyles to families, in  particular in the Springfield area.

There will be a wide range of activities for families to take part in, including practical demonstrations, and advice to families to encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce childhood obesity.  There will be a professional chef who will be demonstrating cooking healthy meals, where you can sample the results.

Parents and carers will also have the opportunity find out about other children’s centres activities and range of services and courses on offer in their local area.

The local Sure Start children’s centre support workers will also be on hand to answer questions and offer support.

Ann Hartley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“I hope many parents and carers will gain lots of useful hints and tips, and a great deal of fun, from these sessions and share their experience at home with their children.”

Families and children will also on the day have the opportunity to join their local children centre and become fully-fledged members.
