Electricity monitors loan scheme at Shropshire libraries

Related topics: Community

A new scheme is in action across five different libraries in Shropshire that involves loaning out electricity monitors to existing library members.  These monitors are loaned out using library membership cards over a time period of up to 3 weeks.

This scheme will give people a real insight to how much electricity they use without being fully aware of it, and how much money that they could potentially save each week if they were to make small alterations to their usual habits.  Monitoring energy can help people understand how they use energy and help to identify areas to make savings from.

The libraries involved are:

  • Bridgnorth
  • Ludlow
  • Market Drayton
  • Oswestry
  • Shrewsbury

Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for carbon reduction and sustainability, said:

“I think this scheme will help people realise how much electricity they use in everyday life and hopefully encourage them to do something about it.”

Claire Forester, Shropshire Council’s sustainability officer, said:

“The monitors are really easy to set up and use, so I encourage everyone who would like to reduce their electricity bills to try one.”
