Ball Chapel Bridge to close for essential repairs

Related topics: Community

Ball Chapel Bridge, which carries the Ball to Gwern y Brenin road over the River Morda, will be closed to traffic for up to five days starting on Monday 30 July 2012 to enable repairs to be carried out to it.

Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the bridge, it is necessary to close it to traffic to carry out the work safely.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted along other local roads.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Joyce Barrow, Shropshire Councillor for St Oswald, said:

“This is essential work which needs to be carried out.

“It is appreciated that the bridge closure may cause some inconvenience and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for bridge maintenance, said:

“Although these repairs will cause some inconvenience I hope people will understand that they are essential.”
