Artwork brightens The Lantern

The Lantern Centre in Sundorne, Shrewsbury has recently benefitted from an exciting textile art project between the Sundorne Homework Club and Oswestry Project Group. 

The artwork, now displayed in the circular atrium above the reception, has been well received by visitors to The Lantern since it went on display in May 2012. 

Gabi Hampson from the Oswestry Project Group said:

“We chose a textile piece comprising of 12 panels with the theme ‘meeting with friends’.  Two of the panels were worked on by the young people who transferred their drawing onto felt and creatively free embroidered their designs by a machine.”

Shropshire Councillor for Sundorne Karen Burgoyne said:

“The artwork in The Lantern is fantastic and really brings to life the reception area.  It’s really positive to see a community project which has utilised the creativity and enthusiasm of local young people with the skills of the project group to produce such an great piece of work.  I would encourage anyone in the area or passing The Lantern to come and have a look.”

The artwork is on permanent display in The Lantern, Meadow Farm Drive, Sundorne, Shrewsbury.
