Snailbeach retaining wall investigation work

Related topics: Community

The Snailbeach to Stiperstones road will be closed in Snailbeach between 9am and 4.30pm for up to three days, starting on Wednesday 6 June 2012.

The proposed closure is required to enable work to be carried out to investigate the integrity of the wall which retains the road alongside 32 and 34 Snailbeach.  Although the road retained by the wall is not showing any signs of distress, the work is proposed because the exposed parts of the wall are very heavily weathered.

The investigation work will include excavating trial holes in the road and drilling horizontal cores through the wall.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Pennerley, Shelve and the A488 road.

When the work is underway, access past 32 and 34 Snailbeach for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available as usual.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways maintenance, said:

“This work may cause some inconvenience, but all involved will do all that they reasonably can to complete the work as soon as possible.

“To avoid impacting on school traffic, the closure has been deliberately programmed to coincide with the school half-term holiday.”
