New scooter clubs for under 7s in Dorrington and Rushbury

Two new Scooter Clubs have started up in Shropshire.  One runs on Tuesdays from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at Dorrington Village Hall, and the other on Thursdays at the same time at Rushbury Village Hall.

Both clubs are aimed at the under 7s who, for just £1 per family, can bring along their own scooters or trikes, and sit and ride on toys and zoom around in a large, safe space.  The sessions are fun whilst also promoting exercise, co-ordination and road safety.

The community-run clubs will be regularly supported by staff from Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centres, who will be available to offer advice and support on parenting issues.

The clubs have grown out of a successful pilot which was held at Dorrington Village Hall and was enjoyed so much by Sam Carver and Grace Carver that their mum Joanne decided to start one up at Rushbury Village Hall which is near their home.  So far over 30 children have enjoyed the clubs and many ‘scooter’ miles have been clocked up.

Shropshire Councillor Tim Barker commented:

“I am thrilled to see the Scooter Club starting back up at Dorrington Village Hall, and happy that the club has extended over to Rushbury.  It is a great way to get little ones exercising and away from the TV.  Special thanks to Dorrington School for kindly funding village hall hire so that the Scooter Club has a chance to become sustainable.”
