Bus service 125 continuing to be affected by major work in Highley

Due to water main replacement works being undertaken along Main Road and High Street in Highley, bus service 125 (Stourbridge-Bridgnorth) will continue to be subject to disruption for the next five weeks, until Friday 25 May 2012.

When possible, roads through the village will be kept open, and on these occasions buses will follow their normal route and timetable.

However, closures will need to be enforced on certain dates, during which time service 125 will not serve Highley or Chelmarsh.  On these occasions, two shuttle buses will operate: one from the Severn Centre in Highley to Eardington, and the other from Station Road / Main Road, Highley to Kinlet.  Both services connect to the 125 bus for onward travel to Kidderminster and Bridgnorth.  The ShropshireLink service continues to be available in the surrounding area.

Timetable information for both suttle services are available from the Whittle Coach and Bus website www.whittlecoach.co.uk.

Regular updates will also be posted at the Severn Centre in Highley and on board buses.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for public transport, said:

“These essential water main replacement works mean that the bus-travelling public in and around Highley will suffer some unavoidable disruption to their services; it is hoped that the work will be completed to schedule, and in the meantime please look at the information regarding changes and alternative services.”

Mary Nicholls, local Shropshire Councillor for Highley, said:

“Highley Parish Council and I have liaised with Severn Trent and Whittle Coach and Bus to try to minimise this disruption as much as possible.  Unfortunately, Severn Trent have been forced to close the road just at the cemetery due to the narrowness of the road, but I have been advised that the disruption will be kept as short as possible – maybe down to five days on this occasion.”
