Residents and visitors can now enjoy a cleaner Welsh Street and Market Square in Bishop’s Castle following a successful deep clean by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team last month (Thursday 23 February 2012).

Prior to the deep clean, posters and flyers were distributed along the street.  This was to inform residents that, in order to undertake streetcleaning, all vehicles parked on the two streets would be required to move for up to two hours whilst work was carried out.

Around 30 vehicles had been moved by the morning of the deep clean, which started at 7.30am and finished around 9am.  A total of 1.684 tonnes of litter including weeds, mud, and leaves were collected.  The pavements were then swept and jet washed.

Whilst undertaking the deep clean, residents came out and thanked the team for the work.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“Residents can now enjoy cleaner streets; especially important as the nights get lighter and the weather gets warmer.”

Charlotte Barnes, Shropshire Councillor for Bishop’s Castle, said:

“I would like to thank the residents for their continued support and co-operation during the deep cleans.  It’s very important, especially along streets like Welsh Street and Market Square, that they move their vehicles.  This then enables the operation to run smoothly and provide a high standard of cleaning.”
