The National Governing Body for Netball, England Netball, have created a Back 2 Netball programme that provides a gentle introduction to the sport for female players over the age of 16.

Sessions are coach-led and cover basic skill development and court play.  The emphasis of the sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing netball with friends, whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities players had forgotten or about getting them active again.

Back 2 Netball has been a roaring success since it was introduced to the sport last year and has provided inspiration for thousands of women to fall back in love with the excellent game.

After some consultation with women living in and around the Oswestry area, a Back 2 Netball programme has been developed to start in May 2012, at Shropshire Council’s Oswestry Leisure Centre.  The programme will consist of 10 one hour sessions beginning at 1pm on the following dates:

  • Saturday 5 May
  • Saturday 12 May
  • Saturday 19 May
  • Saturday 26 May
  • Saturday 2 June
  • Saturday 9 June
  • Saturday 16 June
  • Saturday 23 June
  • Saturday 30 June
  • Saturday 7 July

The overall outcome of the programme will be to sustain the participation of women attending the sessions, by entering a Back 2 Netball team in to the Oswestry and District Netball League.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“This is a great programme which I’m sure will inspire people to revisit or take up the fun sport.  I’d like to encourage people to go along and experience what it has to offer.”
