Shropshire Council’s Cycle Shrewsbury team is encouraging people to cycle to the Shrewsbury Town v Aldershot game on Saturday 31 March 2012.

The led cycle ride will set off from outside Woodfield and St George’s Schools in Woodfield Road in Shrewsbury at 1.30pm.  The ride is aimed at children and their families, and 16- year-olds and under must be accompanied by an adult.  The ride is open to everyone, not just those who attend the schools at the starting point.

Virtually the entire route is along off-road cycle paths and led by qualified instructors from Shropshire Council’s cycle training team.  All abilities of rider will be welcomed.

The matchday rides are a Cycle Shrewsbury promotion in partnership with Shrewsbury Town FC, which aim to combine the healthy and enjoyable activities of riding bicycles and watching football.  The riders all help reduce congestion around the ground, and riders benefit from free cycle parking at their destination.

Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“Cycling is a great way to keep fit and healthy.  It’s also an ideal option for journeys around Shrewsbury.”

To take part in this exciting social event (with discounted adult ticket prices at £10 a ticket), people should call 01743 253063, email transport@shropshire.gov.uk or tweet @CycleShrewsbury
