Ellesmere Local Joint Committee (LJC) have selected The Boathouse in Ellesmere as an ideal location to host their meeting next week (Tuesday 13 March 2012 at 7pm), which focuses on the local tourism offer as the main agenda item.

The committee, which covers the villages of Welshampton, Lyneal, Ellesmere Town, Cockshutt-Cum-Petton and Ellesmere Rural Parish, invites local people to come along and have their say on any issues that would like to raise about the area.

At the meeting Alison Patrick, Shropshire Council’s tourism officer, will be giving a presentation on tourism opportunities in Ellesmere and how they fit in the Shropshire context. There will also an opportunity to hear about the progress made by British Waterways on the LJC project to restore the forge at Ellesmere Yard.

The committee will be looking at 14 funding applications and the allocation of £9,050 which is the remainder of this year’s budget.  Organisations which have applied in this round, or are seeking funding, are encouraged to attend the meeting in order to position their future needs to members of the committee.

Councillor Steve Davenport, Chairman of Ellesmere LJC, said:

We are delighted to be meeting at The Boathouse as it is a very popular spot with locals and is a fine example of how a facility can cater for visitors to the area and serve the local people to a high standard.  During the meeting the committee members will be splitting into groups to allow roundtable discussions on any issues the public wish to raise. The increasing demand for LJC funding is testament to the good work that local organisations do in the area.”
