Cockshutt family fun day

A fun day in north Shropshire gave families the chance to explore the play bus, enjoy circus performances and find out about support available to them.

The family fun day was held in Cockshutt on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday 14 February 2012, for families with children under five to enjoy a range of activities, learn more about Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services, and gain housing advice from Wrekin Housing Trust.  Shropshire Fire and Rescue’s community safety outreach vehicle was also at the event at the Millennium Hall.

Children’s centres offer services and support for families with children under five years old across the county, including early years services, child and family health services, and support for children with additional needs.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“This was a great event for families with young children to try out fun activities, and find out more about what children’s centres can offer.

“Children’s centre services help children aged under five and their families to benefit from high quality health, care and education support.  Parents were able to seek information and advice from children’s centre support workers about children’s centre membership and the other groups and services available in the Cockshutt area.

“The fun day also provided the opportunity to talk with the local housing association and the fire service.  We hope that those who went along had a fantastic time and were able to gain lots of useful information about the support available in their community.”

Brian Williams, Shropshire Councillor for The Meres, said:

“It was great that Cockshutt parents and children had the chance to enjoy a family fun day. As Cockshutt village school has the highest attendance level of any junior school in Shropshire, lessons must be fun as well as learning there!  So it is good that such fun can be provided for parents as well as children in half term by an event like this.”
