Local people from the St Oswald and Llanymynech area are encouraged to attend their last Local Joint Committee (LJC) meeting for this financial year, to be held on Tuesday 7 February 2012 at Llanymynech Village Hall at 7pm.

The meeting will focus on exciting events happening in and around the area during this summer’s Olympic Torch and Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which will leave lasting memories for local people. The meeting will also feature a presentation from Shropshire Council’s tourism officer on the Oswestry and northern Shropshire tourism strategy.

Following previous meetings where rural broadband has been raised, the committee will receive a further update from Alison Brock, Shropshire Council’s ICT client support manager, on progress following the last meeting.

The committee has an annual budget of £15,500 to spend on community projects within the area covering the parishes of Oswestry Rural, Llanyblodwel, Llanymynech and Pant, Melverley, Kinnerley and Knockin.  The committee looks forward to agreeing recommendations on application bids received for the last round of the financial year.

As well as having a dedicated budget to spend on local community projects, the LJC offers an opportunity for people to raise issues that matter to them and their area.  This includes your chance to raise any concerns you have about safety or crime directly with your local police officer.

The meetings are overseen by a panel of councillors from Shropshire Council and local town and parish councils.

Councillor Arthur Walpole, Chairman of the St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC, said:

“These meetings provide a chance for people to tell councillors their views on local issues and services, and to allow us to use our budget to benefit the local community.

“Tourism is a key issue in the area and we feel that local people should have the opportunity to feed into the new Oswestry and northern Shropshire tourism strategy which will underline future aspirations.

“We are also very excited that the Olympic Torch is coming to the area in May and want to encourage local people to get involved in what will be happening in and around the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  Rural broadband and Internet access was such a big issue at the last meeting we wanted to ensure we kept it on the agenda and further update local people on progress.  This is a great opportunity for local people to feed their comments to us as local councillors.”

All local people from the area are welcome to attend.
