Resurfacing for Old Street and Gravel Hill in Ludlow

Related topics: Community

Old Street and Gravel Hill in Ludlow were resurfaced between 17 October and 20 October 2011 by specialist surfacing contractor Colas.

This resurfacing now needs to be repaired as it was not completed to an acceptable standard and has started to break up in places.  The repairs to prolong the life of the road surface will be done at the expense of Colas.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Councillor with responsibility for highways maintenance, said:

“We apologise for the problems associated with this work; the contractor has informed us that the repairs cannot be done during the existing cold weather.

“However, they will be done as soon as practically possible to avoid disruption. The road surfaces will continue to be regularly monitored to ensure that the area is kept safe for all.”

Councillor Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow East, said:

“We are really sorry that this resurfacing work was not successfully carried out first time and appreciate the disruption it has caused to residents and businesses.  The repair work (at no cost to council tax payers) will be done as soon as the weather allows, and we will be checking the road surface throughout the coming weeks.”
