Over 19 bags of litter and 1240kg of leaves and dirt were collected during a deep clean of Highley last week (Wednesday 16 November 2011).

Four volunteers kindly donated their time to help Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team carry out the clean, which took place as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign.

The litter pick, which took place in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule, focused on High Street, Barke Street, Orchard Street, Coronation Street, Rhea Hall Estate, Hazelwells Road, Oak Street, Ash Street and Beech Street.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“I’d like to thank everyone for taking time out of their day to help keep the village clean and tidy.”
