Shropshire Council plans for the future

Related topics: Community / Democracy / Health

A new interactive plan that details how Shropshire Council aims to deliver services over the next three years has been launched.

The new plan gives a flavour of what the council will be doing over the next three years and sets out the way the council will work in future in order to meet the major financial challenges and the changing needs of its residents.  It demonstrates how the council will work more closely with its customers and wider communities ensuring that it is concentrating on the things that are most important to them.

This year the new Council Plan has been launched via a web-based platform, fitting in with the council’s new innovative way of working.  It allows the council to reach more residents, providing an interactive platform for people to receive more up-to-date information on the work of the council.  It gives customers faster and easier ways to get in touch, allowing them to give feedback quickly about the services they receive by using social media tools such as Facebook and twitter.

Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council, said:

“Planning for the future is vitally important at the council.  This plan is produced every three years and usually consists of a lengthy document which costs a considerable amount to produce and is very inaccessible to our customers.  In line with making savings at the council, this year we have decided to do things differently and the council plan is no exception.

“The public can navigate through the interactive plan, watch videos on what we have been doing, what we hope to be doing, and most importantly where we will be going in the future.  We are designing services and solutions that fit locally, provide value for money and respect the differences between our communities.  This gives local people direct involvement in service delivery.

“I would encourage all residents to take the time to look at the plan.  I hope it really gives them a flavour of Shropshire Council now and the challenges we are setting ourselves and how we intend to embrace these challenges for the benefit of the people who live in, work in and visit our county.”

The plan also describes the new ways of working for the council and how it will direct activities on what matters most, delivering:

  • Flourishing Shropshire communities
  • Economic growth and prosperity
  • Better health and well-being
  • Better educational attainment and work placed skills
  • Greater public confidence
  • Service transformation and organisational development

Shropshire Council’s Cabinet discussed the new plan at its meeting on Wednesday 16 November 2011.
