Repairs for Castle Hill Bridge in Leebotwood

Related topics: Community

Castle Hill Bridge near Leebotwood will be closed for parapet repairs starting on Monday 21 November 2011 for up to two days.

The bridge carries an unclassified road over a brook near the access to Castle Hill Farm.

Unfortunately, due to the narrow nature of the bridge, it is not possible to carry out the proposed work safely without closing it to traffic.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Leebotwood.  However, access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Drivers of high vehicles are asked to note that there is a low headroom bridge (11’ 9” or 3.6m) on the proposed diversion route.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member responsible for highways maintenance, said:

“It is appreciated that the proposed work may cause some inconvenience, and every reasonable effort will be made to reopen the road as soon as possible.”

Tim Barker, Shropshire Councillor for Burnell, said:

“I am pleased that this repair work is to take place shortly and, although for a short time there will be some disruption for road users, the work is needed to ensure the long term viability of the route.”
