New Prees stay and play group

Related topics: Community

A new stay and play session for families with children under five years old will be held in Prees from this week.

The free activity will run at Prees CE Primary School once every half term.  The first session will take place tomorrow (Thursday 1 December 2011).  The next two sessions will be held on Thursday 26 January 2012 and Thursday 8 March 2012.  All sessions run from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The group is run by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centre services, and provides opportunities for families with children under five to take part in fun activities to support children’s learning and development.  Parents can seek information and advice from children’s centre support workers about children’s centre membership and the other groups and services available in their local area.  Healthy snacks and cold drinks are provided during the session.

Children’s centres offer services and support for families with children under five years old across the county, including early years services, child and family health services, and support for children with additional needs.

Councillor Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“Children’s centre services help children aged under five and their families to benefit from high quality health, care and education support.  As part of this, stay and play sessions are held across the county.

“This new group will give parents with young children in the Prees area a great opportunity to enjoy fun activities together, meet with other parents, socialise and share experiences, as well as giving parents advice and information to support them and their child’s well-being.

“The views and ideas of parents, carers, partners and staff are instrumental in shaping children’s centre services, and this is another example of how we are responding to ensure the services offer support to as many people as possible and are focusing on those in greatest need.”
