Winter opening hours at household recycling centres

Related topics: Community

From Monday 31 October 2011, winter opening hours will be in place at the county’s household recycling centres, managed by Veolia Environmental Services in partnership with Shropshire Council.

As in previous years, the centres will be open everyday from 9am – 5pm (including weekends).

Shropshire residents can recycle many different types of waste at the sites, such as  cardboard, green garden waste, batteries, cartons (Tetra Paks), waste electrical and electronic equipment including low-energy and fluorescent light bulbs ,and all types of metal.

Donald Macphail, managing director for Veolia Environmental Services in Shropshire, said:

“Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to do their bit for the environment by recycling more of their waste.  The Household Recycling Centres across the county allow residents to recycle a wide range of materials over and above the materials that can be collected from the kerbside.”

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for waste, said:

“The change to opening times means residents will not be visiting after dark when the sites are more difficult to use.  We provide reuse, recycling and disposal facilities for more than thirty different types of waste.”

The five centres are located at:

  • Bridgnorth – Barnsley Lane
  • Craven Arms – Long Lane Industrial Park
  • Oswestry – Mile Oak Industrial Estate
  • Shrewsbury – Battlefield Enterprise Park
  • Whitchurch – Waymills Civic Park

The Amenity Skip and Recycling Centre at Coder Road, Ludlow will continue to open from Tuesdays to Fridays 12noon – 8pm, and on Saturdays 8am – 1pm (cars only).
