Slow down – children crossing

Two new signs warning drivers to slow down when going past St John the Baptist CE Primary School in Ruyton-XI-Towns have been put up after pupils raised concerns about safety on the way to school.

The signs were unveiled on Friday 23 September 2011 and have been designed by two pupils – Holly Walder Williams and Jessica Gregory Cork.

The signs were chosen following a competition inviting all of the children at the school to put forward a design for the new signs.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“This is a great scheme which will hopefully encourage more parents and children to walk and cycle to school.  St John the Baptist school as a whole are really committed to encouraging walking and cycling, and have a great walking bus, so we are pleased to be able to support them.   I hope that parents and children now feel safer on their journey into school.”

Other measures, introduced as part of the project, include new bollards and lining along Church Street.
