Community litter pick to love where you live in Ludlow

Related topics: Community

Shropshire Council is encouraging residents, local businesses and voluntary groups to get involved in a special community litter pick on Monday 17 October 2011.

Officers will be outside the gates of Ludlow Castle at 10.30am to meet any volunteers and to give a quick health and safety talk.  The event will finish at noon.

The council’s environmental maintenance team is organising the litter pick to show support for the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign’s day of action, run by Keep Britain Tidy.

The campaign has six principles:

  • To encourage personal responsibility and positive action
  •  Work in partnership with neighbours to reduce litter
  •  Take responsibility for keeping your own immediate area clean
  •  Raise awareness and education about prevention of littering
  •  Make it easy for people not to drop litter
  •  Become an active ambassador for clean, green places throughout England and the UK.

Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for local environment and economy, said:

“We hope people will come along and get involved in the national day of action.  This is a practical opportunity to show care for where you live in Ludlow.  The more people that get involved the bigger the impact will be.”

Rosanna Taylor Smith, Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“Our teams are committed to improving Shropshire’s environment and I am delighted that we are encouraging the community to join the national Love Where You Live Day of Action.  Please join in, even if you have only half an hour to spare.”

If you would like to organise a community litter pick or report a problem with litter, graffiti or flyposting contact the environmental maintenance teams on 0345 678 9006 or report a problem online at shropshire.gov.uk/environmentmaintenance.nsf

Journalists and photographers are invited to attend the event.
