Closure of Higgins Bridge near Bedstone from Monday 7 November

Related topics: Community

Higgins Bridge, which carries the minor road from Bedstone via Mynd to Bucknell, will be closed to traffic on Monday 7 November 2011 for up to two weeks to enable repairs to be carried out to the bridge wing wall and the adjacent retaining wall.

The repair work will involve taking down and rebuilding the walls and unfortunately, due to the narrow nature of the bridge, it is not possible to carry out the proposed work safely without closing the bridge to traffic.  Due to the distances involved for the diverted traffic, every reasonable effort will be made to reopen the road as soon as possible.

When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted using the B4367 through Bedstone to Bucknell.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“Every reasonable effort will be made to complete this essential repair work as soon as possible to reopen the road to traffic.”
