Locals and visitors are invited to take part in a free seven-mile bike ride – the Lady Halton Loop in Ludlow – on Sunday 23 October 2011, as Ludlow celebrates Love Your Bike month.

Organised and led by Shropshire Council’s cycling officers, the bike ride will start at the Millennium Green by Dinham Weir at 11am and follow a circular route along quiet lanes and bridleways through Priors Halton, the beautiful Oakley Park, Halton Lane and back to the start.

A new family-friendly rides leaflet about the Lady Halton Loop will be launched on the day, and a free bike safety check service will be provided by ‘Dr Bike’ mechanics from Blazing Bikes from 10am, together with a bike hire service for which pre-booking is required via 01694 781515.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for active and healthy lifestyles, said:

“Cycling is a fantastic way of keeping fit as well as being fun.  I would encourage anyone looking for an opportunity to get out your bike this half-term to come along and join in the Lady Halton Loop ride and enjoy the wonderful countryside around Ludlow.”

The Lady Halton Loop bike ride is one of a number of events taking place during Love Your Bike month in October.  Love Your Bike month is organised by Cycle Shrewsbury, Shropshire Council’s campaign to get more people cycling on their regular local journeys. This year’s Love Your Bike month sees the start of new initiatives to get more people cycling in Oswestry and Ludlow, as well as a programme of events in Shrewsbury.
