Work to improve Shrewsbury roundabouts progressing well

Related topics: Community

Work to resurface two busy roundabouts in Shrewsbury started last month (Monday 15 August 2011).

As part of the first phase of the work, the roundabout by the health and fitness centre Welti has successfully undergone many improvements such as resurfacing, new kerbs and drainage work.

Phase two started on 30 August 2011 and involves improvements to Sundorne Roundabout (the junction of Sundorne Road with the A49), with work set to be completed in October 2011.

The council’s contactors have been extremely busy and they are currently ahead of schedule.  This means that the B5062 (from the Sundorne Roundabout to the Uffington junction) is now closed in one direction from Sunday 25 September until Thursday 29 September.

The same section of road will be closed in both directions from Sunday 2 October to Thursday 6 October.

All closures will take place between 7pm and 7am.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“This is great news, especially for local businesses which have remained open throughout the work.

“This essential work is being done as part of our drive to keep the county moving.  It’s vital that we keep investing in our roads, especially as a number of them suffered damage caused by last winter’s severe weather.”

During the work, the council is encouraging people to visit the businesses along this route as all of them will remain open as usual.
