South Shropshire dads group move

Related topics: Community

The Craven Arms dads group run by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children’s centres is moving to Church Stretton at the request of members.

The session for dads, male carers and children under the age of five years old, has been held at the Craven Arms children’s centre area base at Stokesay Primary School on the fourth Saturday of the month. It will now be held at Church Stretton children’s centre area base at Shrewsbury Road.

The group will still meet on the fourth Saturday of each month, at the same time, from 10am to 12 noon. The move was trialled in August and proved to be a success.

The next meeting of the group will take place on Saturday 24 September when dads, male carers and children can experience and enjoy a range of outdoor ‘forest school’ type activities.

Councillor Steve Charmley, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for health and well-being, said:

“Children’s centre services help children aged under five and their families to benefit from high quality health, care and education support. As part of this, dads’ groups are held across the county.

“The views and ideas of parents, carers, partners and staff are instrumental in shaping these services – and will continue to be as we move forward. This is another example of us listening to these views and responding to ensure the services offer support to as many people as possible and are focusing on those in greatest need.”

Services and support offered include early years services, child and family health services, and support for parents and children with special needs.
