Interested in helping with the open spaces or play areas in Craven Arms?
There will be a drop in event at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre on Wednesday 14 September 2011 between 4pm and 6.30pm for anyone interested in helping to maintain and improve the open spaces in Craven Arms (play areas, proposed BMX, planters, other public land etc).
This is part of the project to replace the play area in Newington Way and introduce a new BMX track and access pathway from the community centre into the town centre. It follows on from the recent household survey in May, in which 25 people expressed an interest in volunteering in the town, and the intention is to increase this number.
A funding bid has been submitted to the Community Spaces grant scheme for £50,000 towards the scheme, and the outcome will be known next month.
Call in for a cup of tea and piece of cake and chat to various organisations involved in volunteering or open spaces in the town, and see what opportunities there are for you.
Representatives from the Community Garden, newly formed Allotments Association, Craven Arms Area Youth Group, police, and Onny Meadows and Playing Fields will be on hand, along with professional advice from the volunteering officer from the Community Council of Shropshire.
Shropshire Councillors for Craven Arms James Gibson and David Evans sai:
“There are a number of groups working hard to improve the local environment in Craven Arms, but we need more support from the local community to help with the outdoor spaces including play areas. Please drop in and find out more.”
Shropshire Council Cabinet member Gwilym Butler said:-
“If the funding is approved, this will significantly enhance the outdoor recreation provision and it will show real community support if more volunteers can be recruited.”
