Shropshire Council is encouraging residents, local businesses and voluntary groups to get involved in their community litter pick in Ludlow on Monday 12 September 2011.

The council’s environmental maintenance teams will be out in Ludlow between 10am and 12noon.  The team are looking to boost their routine streetcleaning, after thousands of visitors are expected to visit the town for the famous Food Festival this week (9 to 11 September 2011). The teams have been carrying out community litter picks across the county as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign.

Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“We hope people will come along and get involved in their community litter pick.  This is a real chance to return Ludlow to looking its best for the rest of the tourist season following the Food Festival.  The more people that get involved the bigger the impact will be.

“Our teams are committed to improving Shropshire’s environment and I am delighted that we are continuing to support the national Big Tidy Up campaign.”

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“For many years I have been running the Pride of Place voluntary litter picking group, so this is close to my heart.

“I hope that the Food Festival this coming weekend will be the best ever, and would encourage everyone to join us to give the town centre an extra big clean up on the morning after.”

Council officers will be at the Castle Street car park at 10am to meet any volunteers and to give a quick health and safety talk.  Please join in, even if you have only half an hour to spare.
