Deep clean for Ludlow’s Jockey Field and Teme Avenue

Jockey Field and Teme Avenue in Ludlow are now spotless following a deep clean by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team last month (31 August 2011).

As parked vehicles usually prevent road sweeper access, visitors and residents were asked to find alternative parking, such as on Old Street, whilst work was undertaken on the road and pavement.

During the deep clean, the council’s street cleaning warden assisted the contractor Veolia Environmental Services to shovel backlines as well as sweep the pavement to gather leaves, grit and dirt.  The large road sweeper was able to operate to great effect only missing areas where cars remained in place.  The footpath leading from St Laurence’s school to Old Street was also swept.

This work has had a big impact along the street.  A couple of residents kindly made appreciative comments to all involved, noting that residents need to co-operate with the council so that cleaning could be carried out.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for street scene, said:

“I would like to thank the Ludlow residents and visitors who moved their cars for the morning so that we could clean the road and pavement properly. I am sure that they will have noticed the improvement immediately – the road and pavements look so much better.”

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“After the deep clean, Jockey Field looks so much better and I am grateful to all the residents who moved their vehicles to allow the cleaning team to get to work.  I am sorry that some parked vehicles did not move to enable our roadsweeper to complete the job.”
