Closure of Lower Longwood Bridge near Eaton Constantine
Lower Longwood Bridge will be closed to traffic from Monday 19 September 2011 for up to five weeks to enable repairs to be carried out to it.
The repair work that is to be carried out to the bridge is to repair scour damage that has eroded areas of the upstream training walls, and to install a concrete invert the full length of the bridge under the road.
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Upper Longwood then back down through Eaton Constantine to the B4380 and up to Lower Longwood crossroads.
Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.
Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:
“It is appreciated that the closure of the bridge to traffic may cause inconvenience, and every reasonable effort will be made to reopen it as soon as possible.”
