Church Street in Clun gets a deep clean

Residents and visitors can now enjoy a cleaner Church Street in Clun, following a successful deep clean by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance last week (Wednesday 24 August 2011).

Due to how busy the picturesque street is, the road sweeper often has difficulty accessing the entire street to remove moss, dirt and leaves.  In order to carry out a thorough clean of the area, residents were asked to find alternative parking whilst the cleaning took place between 7am and 9am.

During the deep clean, the council’s streetcleaning warden assisted the contractor Veolia Environmental Services to sweep, remove weeds and then jet wash the pavements.

This has had a big impact along the street.  One resident came out and took a photograph of the street whilst there were no cars along it.  Other residents walking and cycling by made nice comments and congratulated the team on the work being carried out.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy cabinet member, said:

“This deep clean has been a great success and I’m sure that residents, visitors and businesses will appreciate the team’s hard work.”

Nigel Hartin, Shropshire Councillor for Clun said:

“It’s nice to see Clun have its second deep clean of the year along Church Street.  I would like to thank all the residents for their continued support and co-operation during the deep cleans.  This will not only enhance the area for the residents but also for the many tourists who come to visit Clun.”
