Shrewsbury’s Sundorne and Battlefield wards are holding a Community Games and Fun Day this Saturday, 3 September 2011, 11am-3pm, at the Lantern Green on Meadow Farm Drive, Sundorne – the first of its kind in many years.

Some activities, including a skateboard competition, will also be based at the Sundorne Sports Hall/Youth Centre on the other side of Sundorne Road.

All activities are free, and include Zorbing, street dancing from High Definition, football on an inflatable pitch from Sports Jam, cheerleading, face painting, demonstrations by the Embroiderers’ Guild, the famous smoothie bike, face painting, roller skating, Reccy Rangers and the Positive Activities bus.

Other sports activities include community games races with a Victorian theme, a skateboard competition and street hockey – a number of prizes are up for grabs, so competitors and teams need to register early on the day.

The event has also attracted the talents of local Sundorne resident and talented artist Carla Boulton, aka Naughty Mutt Ltd, who as well as working as a graphic designer nationally, has been involved in a project at Ditherington Flax Mill and has directed children in producing murals at Sundorne Infants School.

The Community Games & Fun Day is the result of the collaboration of a number of local organisations including Shropshire Council, Severnside Housing, Shropshire Youth, Sundorne Sports Village and West Mercia Police, to name but a few.

Shropshire Councillor for Sundorne, Karen Burgoyne, said:

“We’re hoping for a great turnout at the event, which is the result of some months of planning and hard work by a number of agencies.  Also for fine weather to complete what promises to be a really good day!”
