Old Forge Bridge repairs to start

Related topics: Community

Work to repair Old Forge Bridge, which carries the Grindle to Shifnal road over a watercourse at Grindleforge, is due to start on Monday 5 September 2011.

The work will involve underpinning and protecting the bridge’s supporting walls, which have been partially undercut by flood water.

Unfortunately, because of the nature of the work, it will be necessary to close the bridge to traffic to carry out the repairs safely.  The bridge will therefore be closed to traffic for up to four weeks starting on Monday 5 September.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

When the bridge is closed, traffic will be diverted via Grindle, Kemberton and Evelith.

Councillor Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport, said:

“It is appreciated that the proposed work may cause some inconvenience and every reasonable effort will be made to complete it as soon as possible.”
