Volunteers and Shropshire Council officers get ready to clean the village.

A total of nine sacks of rubbish and 1080kg of dirt and leaves were collected by volunteers and Shropshire Council officers as part of a deep clean of Albrighton earlier this month (10 August 2011).

Managing to avoid the rain, the team focused on Newport Road, Worthington Drive, Loak Road, St Cuthberts Crescent, Bowling Green Lane, Elm Road including the play area, Church Road, Abney Avenue including the play area, Albert Road and High Street.

The litter pick was organised by the council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and it was carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.

To report a problem of litter in Shropshire or to organise a community litter pick call 0345 678 9006 or visit the council’s website.

The Big Tidy Up campaign is a national initiative encouraging residents, voluntary groups and organisations to carry out litter picks in their area.
