Overton Road pavements successfully cleaned, near Ludlow

Overton Road (B4361) just outside Ludlow is now spic and span following the removal of over 3.5 tons of weeds and dead leaves from its pavements.

Shropshire Council’s streetscene southwest team got to work at 9am on 15 July 2011 sweeping and weeding the pavements, starting just opposite the entrance for Moor Park School and finishing at what is locally known as Policeman’s Corner.

The majority of the work coincided with the summer term break at Moor Park School meaning that the road was quieter, enabling the work to be carried out more efficiently, while causing as little disruption as possible to motorists.

A total of 3.610 tons of weeds and leaves were collected from the clean, leaving the street sweeper’s tank completely full.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, said:

“This deep clean has been a great success and I’m sure that residents, visitors and businesses will appreciate the team’s hard work.”

Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow South, said:

“I am pleased that this important maintenance work and gulley cleaning has been carried out.  A staggering amount of leaves and detritus have been collected in what is one of the most attractive parts of our county.”
