Two residents, a person from Shifnal Town Council and 20 pupils and staff from Idsall School helped Shropshire Council’s street scene team collect 25 sacks of rubbish and 3,920kg of dirt and leaves as part of the Shifnal deep clean earlier this month (13 July 2011).

The clean was part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and was carried out in addition to the routine street cleaning schedule.

The clean focused on Haughton Road, Haughton Lane, Worfe Road, Newport Road, High Street, Wheatfield Drive, Beech Drive, Broadway, Curriers Lane, Shrewsbury Road, Cheapside, Bradford Street, Aston Street, Aston Road, Victoria Road, Innage Road, Church Street, Market Place and Park Street.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member, said:

“I was really impressed with the great turnout on the day.

“It’s especially good to see that young people are taking a pride in Shifnal, and are ready to pitch in so that the town looks its best.”
