Westcott Mill Bridge to close for essential repairs

Related topics: Uncategorized

Westcott Mill Bridge, which carries the Goldstone to Cheswardine road over a watercourse near Westcott Mill, will be closed for repairs on 27 June 2011 for up to two weeks.

The repairs will involve underpinning the bridge’s concrete invert, placing large boulders alongside the watercourse to protect one of the bridge’s wing walls from further scour damage, and parapet replacement work.

Unfortunately, because of the narrow nature of the road, it is not possible to carry out the proposed work safely without closing it to traffic.

When the bridge is closed, a signed diversion route will be provided.

Access over the bridge for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available throughout the proposed work.

Simon Jones, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport said:

“It is appreciated that the closure of the bridge will cause inconvenience and every reasonable effort will be made to reopen it as soon as possible.”
