A top Government minister has visited Shropshire to give his support to businesses fighting back from the recession.

Business Secretary Vince Cable came to the county following an invitation from Shropshire Councillor Peter Phillips, and he met business leaders from across Shropshire yesterday (Monday 27 June 2011).

Council leader, Keith Barrow, said it was a very useful visit:

“It’s important that we keep an open dialogue with the Government, and it’s always very useful to meet senior ministers.  We spoke about a variety of issues, from the economic pressures facing businesses and the work we’re doing to try support industry in Shropshire.  We also talked about the need to improve broadband access in rural parts of the county and he was very supportive of that.”

Shropshire Council is bidding for a share of a £530 million Government fund to install superfast broadband in areas not currently connected.  People can get involved and offer their support at www.connectingshropshire.co.uk
