Local people from the St Oswald and Llanymynech area are encouraged to attend the first meeting this financial year of their Local Joint Committee (LJC), to be held on Tuesday 14 June at Morda Village Hall, starting at 7pm.

The committee has an annual budget of £15,500 to spend on community projects within the area covering the parishes of Oswestry Rural, Llanyblodwel, Llanymynech and Pant, Melverley, Kinnerley and Knockin.

The committee looks forward to agreeing recommendations on application bids from the first round of the year, along with proposals for mobile Vehicle Activated Signs for parishes within the area that have been highlighted as having speeding problems following the special highways meeting held in February 2011.

As well as having a dedicated budget to spend on local community projects, the LJC offers an opportunity for people to raise issues that matter to them and their area.

Following previous meetings where young farmers and youth matters have been raised, the committee will receive a presentation from the Shropshire Young Farmers Federation, as well as reports back from various youth projects that have been funded over the last year.

The scheduled future meeting dates for St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC for this year are:-

  •   Tuesday 14 June 2011 (Morda Village Hall)
  •  Tuesday 4 October 2011 (Knockin Assembly Rooms)
  •  Tuesday 7  February 2012 (Llanymynech Village Hall)

The meetings are overseen by a panel of councillors from local town and parish councils and Shropshire Council.

Shropshire Councillor Arthur Walpole, Chairman of St Oswald and Llanymynech LJC, said:

“We have had some great projects over the last few years and look forward to many more this year.  Following interest in the important work that Shropshire Young Farmers Federation carries out in rural areas, we also look forward to hearing from them about their current role in the area and the wide range of activities that they provide for young people.”

All local people from the area are welcome to attend.
