Ludlow streets cleaned before busy tourist season

Two of Ludlow’s streets have been successfully cleaned in preparation for the busy summer season.

Shropshire Council carried out a deep clean along Fish Street and Pepper Lane on Monday 16 May 2011.

In order to carry out a thorough clean of the area, the council asked residents and shopkeepers to find alternative parking so that the large mechanical sweeper could operate effectively and without disruption.

The majority of the work involved removing weeds from the pavements and inbetween the cobbles.  However, the team also picked up litter, swept and removed graffiti.

Councillor Martin Bennett, Shropshire Council’s deputy Cabinet member, with responsibility for street scene, said:

“It’s great to see these streets looking their best and ready to welcome both residents and tourists.”

Rosanna Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North, said:

“I do hope that we can keep this special part of town looking its best so that local residents and visitors can enjoy walking through from Broad Street to call in at the various individual shops and cafes before reaching Old Street at the other end.”

People can report any problems with litter or graffiti to the environmental maintenance teams on 0345 678 9006, or alternatively report a problem online at shropshire.gov.uk/environmentmaintenance.nsf
