Free family fun in north Shropshire for National Family Week

Related topics: Leisure, culture and heritage

Families with children under five in north Shropshire are invited to a host of fun activities this half term to celebrate National Family Week (31 May 2011 to 6 June 2011).

Organised by Shropshire Council’s Sure Start children centres, the events are free, and include storytelling and rhymes, water play, big craft activities and fun sports games.

National Family Week is the largest annual celebration of families and family life in the UK and aims to encourage families to spend more time together.

There will be numerous events across the county organised to bring families together in National Family Week, and for children to experience a range of enjoyable activities which will also support their learning and development.

Parents and carers will also have the opportunity find out about other children’s centre activities and services on offer.

Events in north Shropshire will be held on:

  • Tuesday 31 May  at Unicorn Road Playing Fields, Oswestry from 10am to 1pm
  • Wednesday 1 June at Morda Children’s Centre, Morda Primary School, near Oswestry from 11am to 2pm
  • Thursday 2 June at Wem Children’s Centre (entrance from New Street via Medical Practice car park) from 10am to 1pm
  • Friday 3 June at Birch Road Recreational Ground, Ellesmere from 10am to 1pm.

Shropshire Council’s Cabinet mmber Councillor Aggie Caesar-Homden said:

“As a council we truly recognise how important it is for families to spend quality time together.  Our modern lifestyles can often leave us with little time for family life, so what better way to mark National Family Week than with these fantastic events to encourage families to get out and about and have some family fun.  We also understand that school holidays can be expensive for families, so it is reassuring that all our Sure Start cildren events are free of charge.”

Families and children will also on the day have the opportunity to join their local children’s centre and become fully-fledged members.  Older siblings of under fives are also welcome.
