People invited to join Clun litter pick

Related topics: Community

People living in Clun are being encouraged to take part in a community litter pick in the town on Tuesday 3 May 2011, following the town’s Green Man Festival.

The litter pick has been organised by Shropshire Council’s environmental maintenance team as part of the national Big Tidy Up campaign and it is being carried out in addition to their routine street cleaning schedule.

The litter pick will be focusing on residential areas surrounding the town centre.

Officers will be at the Bridge Car Park on Newcastle Road at 10am to meet volunteers and give a brief health and safety talk.  Litter picking equipment will be provided.  The litter pick will finish at around noon.

Councillor Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for transport and IT, said:

“We invite people to join us on the day to pick up litter and to help us keep Clun clean and tidy.  Everyone is welcome to come and join us.”

Nigel Hartin, Shropshire Councillor for Clun, said:

“Last time we picked up many bags of rubbish from in and around Clun; every bag collected means less litter pollution left.”

The Big Tidy Up campaign is a national initiative encouraging residents, voluntary groups and organisations to carry out litter picks in their area.
