Easter waste and recycling reminder

Related topics: Community

Householders in Shropshire are being reminded that their waste and recycling will be collected a day later than normal for the two weeks from Monday 25 April 2011 due to the Easter weekend.

As a result of the Easter Monday bank holiday, collections due to be made from Monday 25 April will be made a day later than normal.  For example, collections that would normally be made on Monday will instead be made on Tuesday.  Collection crews will be working on Friday 29 April – the day of the Royal Wedding – and collections that would normally take place on Thursday will be collected on that day.

Collections will return to normal on Monday 9 May. Any residents unsure about which day they should put out their waste or recycling are asked to check their collection calendar or call 0345 678 9007.

Residents can also check out their bin day on line using the new online collection day finder at shropshire.gov.uk/binday.

Donald Macphail, Managing Director of Veolia Environmental Services, Shropshire Council’s waste contractors, said:

“We want to remind people that the collection crews will be coming one day later than normal following the Easter and bank holiday weekends. If anyone is unsure which day to put their bins, boxes or bags out, we ask them to check the collection calendar which will have been delivered to their house.”

Councillor Mike Owen, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for waste, said:

“We anticipate that a great deal of household and garden waste will be produced over the two long bank holiday weekends.  As well as reminding people about changes to their collection days we want to encourage them to recycle or compost as much as they can, rather than throwing it in the bin.”

Over the two long bank holiday weekends Shropshire’s five household recycling centres will be open from 9am to 6pm every day.  The centres are located at Barnsley Lane, Bridgnorth; Battlefield Enterprise Park, Shrewsbury; Craven Arms Business Park, off Long Lane; Mile Oak Industrial Estate, Oswestry and Waymills Industrial Estate, Whitchurch.

In addition to this the Coder Road recycling centre in Ludlow is open from 12pm – 8pm, Tuesday to Friday and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays all year round.
