Finding out what’s going on at Shropshire Council has just got even easier with a new Newsroom app.

The app follows the launch of the Shropshire Newsroom earlier this month (March 2011) and has been developed by a pupil from The Marches School in Oswestry.  Ashley Beardmore has an interest in new technology and, after seeing the Newsroom site, decided to create an app to make it easier for people to access the latest news on the move.

The app aims to make it even easier for residents to find out the latest news from Shropshire Council by downloading the free app to their iPhone available in the App Store or OVI Store for Nokia smart phones, and will soon be available on android phones.  It allows users to view the latest news, podcasts, videos and tweets.

Ashley said:

”I thought it would be really useful to be able to access this newsroom from your phone so I decided to develop an app for this.  I have really enjoyed doing it and I hope that people download and use the app.”

Councillor Keith Barrow, Leader of Shropshire Council, said:

“This is a fantastic facility that one of our county’s young people has been able to develop for us.  I would like to congratulate Ashley on such a fantastic job.  The app should make it even easier for our residents to find out the latest from Shropshire Council.”

Then Shropshire Newsroom is a one stop shop for the latest news, podcasts and photographs of what is happening near you.

The Newsroom is linked directly from the council’s website, but can also be found at: www.shropshirenewsroom.com

The Shropshire Council Newsroom app can be downloaded from the App Store.
